Our Story

In early 2016, co-founder Mimoe had to say goodbye to her best friend Kuro who she spent 16 years of her life with. To help cope with the loss of her own dog, she decided to visit dog shelters. This is when she faced the reality of life at a shelter. Like most people do, she expected to see cute furry faces and waggly tails, but unfortunately that was not the case. Of course there were dogs who showed excitement and ran towards human to get some pets, but those were the ones who got adopted first. The ones who were overseen were the ones who showed aggression because of their fear towards human or simply because of their “dirty” appearance. It broke her heart to see these beautiful souls being “damaged” in their small cage.

What can I do to help these overshadowed dogs?

The first thing that came to mind was grooming. Not only do some shelter dogs have unkempt fur, but their faces are hidden under mounds of it. Knowing that a little makeover can increase the chance of adoption, she decided to quit her full time job to become a groomer. After attending school and receiving a certificate, she started volunteering at a local shelter while working at a dog salon. However, there was a limit to what can be done as a volunteer. It was time to make a bigger commitment.

It became her dream to provide a cage free environment for shelter dogs and help find their forever home. A DOG CAFE!
What can be better than being able to play with shelter dogs while enjoying drinks and munchies with friends and family? :)

So what’s my next step?

Mimoe shared her vision with her best friend Tomomi who strongly believed in the potential impact a dog cafe can make. They are now a team of two working towards their dream of providing a forever home for rescue dogs.
